Where Are You?
That might sound like the opening words of a game children could play. The question really is an important one.
At this point, we are two months into 2023. So, where are you morally, spiritually, medically, faithfully, educationally, ethically, professionally, productively, financially, emotionally, and mentally?
It is my hope and prayer you are doing quite nicely. If not, how about making some course corrections now rather than waiting until the beginning of 2024?
Someone reading this article might have already bought into the idea that you will never amount to anything. That is really up to you.
Many years ago, a young man by the name of Paul Burleson, heard his dad say to him, “You will never amount to anything.” Paul was crushed, but Paul was also motivated. He decided to prove his father wrong.
He decided, “I am going to amount to something. I am going to learn how to play the French horn [and] I’m going to be good enough to play in our city’s Philharmonic Orchestra.
Paul set out to accomplish the goal he set for himself. He accomplished the mission. He did learn how to play the French horn. He did earn first chair in his city’s’ Philharmonic Orchestra. He played in that year’s annual performance. And then … he never played the French horn again. Why? Just to prove to his dad he could amount to something.
So, where are you? Are you on a journey to being the person you want to be? Better yet, are you on the journey to being the person you were designed to be?
It might surprise you to know the very first question God asked, as recorded in the Bible in Genesis 3:9 was, “Where are you?”
It is worth noting that our all-knowing Lord God never asks questions to gain information. He knows everything already. In essence, what He asked that day was – “Do you know where you are?”
Your heavenly Father designed you with a purpose in mind. If you would like to chat about where you are, where you would like to be, and gain a few tips on how to get there, give me a call.
By the way, Paul Burleson accomplished much more than learn how to play the French horn and play in his city’s orchestra. He became a husband, a father, a grandfather, a teacher, a preacher, an author, an evangelist, and a pastor. In fact he was my pastor when I attended seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Have a great day!
