The Inevitability of Change

It seems there are usually only two kinds of people who like change. The babies in the nursery and the people promoting change. The truth is most of the time we do not like change happening upon us. It is also true that change is inevitable from time to time.

We do not like it when the bridge is out for several months. We do not like it when a traffic jam causes us to be rerouted. We do not like it when a tree is down due to a storm requiring us to take a different path to school or work. We are about to experience a different kind of change unless someone steps up to the plate.

For fifteen years, Gary Strohm and his staff have been publishing the West Vigo Times. This past Saturday it was announced that today’s edition will be the last. In the announcement, the reasons were given for the ending of the publication.

When change is announced, we usually do not like it. The normal reactions are we are either sad or mad. We are rarely glad about change. I think most of us were sad to hear the announcement.

So, what will happen? What will take its place? Will someone buy the rights and learn how to keep publishing the paper? Will a new newspaper be created to serve the people in the West Vigo area? Will someone create an electronic version?

On Tuesday, I met with Gary. I asked him a ton of questions and expressed my sadness to see the paper come to an end. I can certainly understand his reasons for ending the publication and I wish him well in all of his future endeavors. If you have any ideas, I would love to hear them.

As this will also be my last article to be posted in this way, I do plan on continuing to write. Past articles are available and future articles will be available in my blog on the Sugar Creek Baptist Church website. I want to personally thank all of you for your comments and your encouragement for these past many weeks and months. If I can ever be of any help to you, please let me know.

May our Lord bless you and keep you. May our Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May He lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace now and forever more. Amen!
