There is something very appealing about Aussie people. Maybe it is the fact that they are “down under.” Maybe it is because of Crocodile Dundee or the bloomin’ onion. Whatever it is, it is there. This week in VBS, we learned a lot about the Australian people.
A very important group within the Australian people are the Aboriginals. They have a quite peculiar belief about how things and people got here. To the Aboriginals the time when everything was created was called Dreamtime. Before Dreamtime, there was no life. There was nothing. Dreamtime was when the Spirits, as they call them, made the land and the people. They also made laws about how people were to behave.
When I read their version of the creation account, it sounds to me like they were very familiar with the real creation account as we find it in the Bible, they just wanted to have their own version of how things got started.
The fact is the ancient Aboriginal people were familiar with the original creation account when they developed their own version. In Genesis 1 & 2 we have the true creation account. In chapters 6-10 we have the flood account and then in chapter 11 we find the record of the Tower of Babel.
After the rebellion of the people and the dispersion from the Tower of Babel experience, some of the descendants of Noah settled in Australia. That was about 2000 B.C. As you can imagine, as time passed the people multiplied in Australia and various tribes developed.
Noah, the keeper of the books of Adam and Seth knew and knew of the Creator God. If they and their descendants would have done their fatherly duty of passing down to each generation the true creation account, this new version would not have been created.
It sounds like what happened was as people did pass down the story orally, they started changing the story ever so slightly each time with each generation to the point they have the version they settled on.
Somewhere along the way the people who knew the truth, turned their backs on the truth and the true account was corrupted with several retellings of the account and they developed their own version of history.
Many godly parents still teach their children the truth, but the only hope of truth to survive is for them and other leaders and teachers to be bold and willing to teach the true creation account.
Today, there are many myths that are being taught. One of the most deceptive versions of how we arrived here is the one that teaches we evolved from primates. When this version is adopted, other lies are also taught. Things like we are just animals without a spirit and heaven does not exist. Our all-powerful, all-knowing, and omnipotent God is reduced to an apelike creature, and we evolved from him. Is that really what you want your children to learn and believe?
