Thankful for you!

There is a popular and often repeated line in the Bible – “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.” I would like to borrow that line and send it to you today.

I only know a few of you who read these blog posts. Some of you I will never meet in this life. Many of you I might get to meet someday. For those I have never met, it seemed timely to help you get to know this guy who lives and pastors in West Terre Haute, Indiana.

I am originally from Evansville. I grew up in the country in Vanderburgh County and went to a Reitz High feeder school (Cynthia Heights) and graduated from North High School.

I attended Grace Baptist Church from childhood. It was through that church that I met my wife. Actually, it was the result of a providential encounter at a church-sponsored roller-skating event. We were only teenagers at that time. When I saw her skating around that roller rink, it was love at first sight. At least that is the way it was for me. For her it took a while.

Fast forwarding, we married as "kids." I was twenty. She was nineteen. In those days, I was a plumber. I guess I thought I would always be a plumber, but the Lord had other plans.

I was saved at the age of 26, called to preach at 28, and sitting in my first seminary classroom at the age of 30 at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. In those days I was an “old guy” attending seminary with traditional students in their early twenties.

Upon graduation I began what we often call vocational ministry. I have served in five churches in one way or another in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Indiana. For the past eight years I have been the pastor here at Sugar Creek Baptist Church in West Terre Haute. I have been on many international mission trips.

We have one son and four grandchildren. I love to play golf and am a very amateur woodworker. I love to teach and am an avid researcher. Although I write and teach on many topics, I absolutely love teaching people about God and the truths found in the Bible.

It is my hope and prayer that I will have the opportunity to meet many of you someday. If you should ever need a guest speaker at a school, church, or civic event, I would consider it an honor to be invited.

I have spoken on quite an array of topics including finances, Alzheimer’s, time management, and as a Board Certified Mental Health Coach, the vast topics under the category of mental health.

I pray you will remain healthy in these days. Give me a shout or send me a note if I can ever be a help to you.
