Tabernacle Tour
The Bible is an amazing book. No other book has been written that has so thoroughly covered the standards for truth, love, honesty, humility, racism, oppression, greed, concern for the sick, the weak, the homeless, the poor, the dying, the intrinsic value of people of all color, and the subject of life after this life.
If you are a reader of the Bible, you have your favorite book(s) and your favorite topics.
One of my favorite Old Testament topics is the tabernacle in the wilderness. In the Bible we find there are more than 300 references to the tabernacle. There are instructions about how to build it, how to furnish it, and how to use it.
I love to study and read about the tabernacle because it speaks so much of Jesus.
The tabernacle was a small building. If we were allowed to go into the tabernacle itself we would find that it consists of a large room divided into two rooms. One room is called The Holy Place and other The Most Holy Place.
As we pass through the entrance of the tabernacle we would find ourselves standing in the larger of the two rooms - the Holy Place. Its measurements are 15 feet wide, 30 feet in depth, and 15 feet in height.
As we look around in the room, on the right there would be the table of showbread reminding us that Jesus is the Bread of Life. On the left we would see a candlestick reminding us that Jesus is the Light of the World.
As we look forward we would see a massive curtain that is called the veil. This veil separates the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place which is the most sacred of the two rooms.
Just before the veil, but still inside the Holy Place would be the altar of incense. The altar of incense speaks of the importance of prayer and reminds us to pray.
Today, when we pray, we pray to the Father, in the name of the Son, in the power of the Holy Spirit. The altar is a reminder that prayers offered up to God in Jesus name are a sweet-smelling aroma just like good smelling incense is a sweet-smelling aroma to us.
As we pass through the veil, we step into a room that is a perfect cube. It is 15 feet in depth, 15 feet wide, and 15 feet high.
Directly in front of us is the ark of the covenant. It is a chest made of Achaia wood and is covered with pure gold. It is about 4 feet wide, 2 feet front to back, and 2 feet tall.
The top of the ark is called the mercy seat. This reminds us that Jesus is the person of mercy and He is also the sacrifice for our sins. This reminds me that Jesus completely paid the full price for our sins. Take some time and read about the tabernacle.
