Ready to Celebrate?
One of the greatest days of celebration and worship is Resurrection Sunday. The day we often call Easter Sunday is a day when our attention is drawn in a keen and fresh way to the crucifixion and primarily the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
For a moment, put yourselves in the place of the disciples the day before, so many years ago. On Friday, they saw their Lord and Master crucified on a rugged wooden cross. Even though Jesus told them several times this crucifixion would happen, they were in a hopeless situation. They were grieving.
The way it appeared to them, the political and religious leaders had conspired to take Jesus out of the way. In their eyes he was murdered, as a common criminal, in the most despicable way possible. They had just experienced the worst day in their lives. They could not see even a glimmer of hope.
Today, as we reflect back, we know what happens tomorrow. From where they sat, they could not see it. Their celebration would happen tomorrow, but remember, they were living this in real time. They had failed to personalize the promise of Jesus that He would rise from the dead.
Tomorrow is Resurrection Sunday. It is one of the greatest opportunities we have to celebrate. I hope you plan on going to church tomorrow. If no one has invited you yet, let me take this opportunity to invite you to worship with us. But for sure, go to church somewhere tomorrow where the truth about the resurrection of Jesus will be taught, preached, and celebrated.
Sit with your family members and friends. If need be, sit with total strangers. But for sure, go to church. Hopefully where you attend, there will be great singing and fellowship. Maybe a choir will sing, or, in our case, a praise team will help lead us in worship. Then there will be a special time of Bible study as the speaker, teacher, preacher opens the Word of God.
You may be asking, "Why should I go to church on Easter? Can the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, something that happened so long ago, mean anything for me today?"
Yes! Absolutely! The crucifixion and the resurrection of Jesus does have importance for you and for me, even though they happened so long ago. Please, go to church and be ready to hear how big and how special Resurrection Sunday really is.
As I have offered many times before, I will say again – if I can help you in any way to know our Lord Jesus Christ in a more personal way, and grow in your knowledge of Him, just let me know. I hope and pray I will see many of you in church tomorrow.
